This topic is for the City of Fontana. Before we let the world in HR (literally) when Cherry opens all the way to the 15 freeway. What provisions does the city have for all the expected traffic? Is Fontana PD going to have extra patrol for crime and traffic? How many street lights (red) will there be on Cherry? I for one know you cant stop growth, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure the traffic going north on the 15, will be a portion of that coming through HR. Hunters Ridge will probally never be the same after Cherry opens up. Lets see what the city has to say, since they are the administrative body that approved it!

I will ask our traffic engineer to address the concern... but I think it is critical that everyone on this site understand that this continuation of Cherry should come as no surprise to Hunter's Ridge residents... why did Cherry continue to the barricade (now chain link fence)? It has been part of the city's circulation plan for quite some time. From my perspective, while it will likely result in increased traffic in the short term, ultimately it will provide greater convenience to HR residents as well who will be traveling north on the I-15, who have commented that we need a second exit from HR in the event of emergency, etc. I also believe that the "cut-through" traffic concerns for Friday / weekend nights will be alleviated in the coming years as Caltrans and the regional transportation agencies make improvements on the I-15 at Devore along with widening of the I-15 from the SR-60 all the way to the high desert... these are improvements that will come in the future and they will continue to ease traffic in our region (although not nearly as quickly as we all would like). I also think that the completion of the 210 all the way to the 215 will provide another alternative to the I-15 parking lot for those heading to Vegas / river vacation spots. Perhaps you are also aware that the City is currently designing a new interchange at Duncan Canyon / I-15... this will allow HR residents access to the I-15 at both Summit and Duncan Canyon... As for extra patrols by PD, they have provided additional service when there are specific concerns raised (i.e. construction truck traffic). I would expect them to continue to provide their first rate service in the future. Mayor Mark |

Good Morning Mayor Mark, I am a Hunter's Ridge resident, my backyard faces Cherry Ave. I love the area, however I do not like the fact that I have no privacy in my backyard with a wrought iron fence. Now that Cherry will go all the way through is there anyway we can get the city to change all the wrought iron fences to brick or cement walls. Or can we get permission from the city to change it our self? I can't even image what it would be like having all the traffic go through with all the added noise level and traffic. Do you have any suggestions? |

I know I'm not Mark, but I had to butt in. Can you imagine the cost of replacing everyone's "fencing".. that is the whole entire look of Hunter's Ridge. And I think it's awesome. Our last neighborhood had ugly wood fencing that rotted and fell down, or people painted all kinds of wacky colors. When we bought here we saw we had "view fencing", we questioned whether they'd be building behind us as we wanted to keep our view and our privacy. No, they aren't because it's an Edison easement. We were so excited to have such a nice wall and ironwork to be a part of the cost of our home. Anyway, that doesn't matter, my point is when you buy a house, you look at everything, the view out every window, the view in your yard, what the future might bring and take that into consideration. My suggestion to you is to plant some thick vines, a lot of the people along Cherry have done that and they are so beautiful and yet private. Maybe you could ask some of your neighbors in your situation what to plant. Privets make a nice wall, bouganvilleas (spelling?), all sorts of vines. You could put up some lattice, that's another nice look but I'm not sure how that will hold up in the our wind, our neighbors lattice was ripped to mulch. And to me it's always been obvious that Cherry was not a dead end and they didn't build a pretty cul de sac. Just trying to help out a neighbor. |

Thank you Yvonne for the suggestions, I will indeed look into a few different options. My concern is that I have two small children and I want to feel comfortable having them play outside in the backyard. Another concern is that I do want to eventually build a pool and again want privacy for my family and guest. But you are right I should have thought of all this before I bought my home. I figured that Cherry would go through but I didn't know it would go all the way through to the 15 Freeway. I always thought that it would only be Hunter Ridge's residents traveling through our community not the rest of the surrounding areas. I have a bit of a dilemma but I love our community so much, I'll make my backyard situation work for me somehow. Thanks again neighbor. |

I understand the privacy issues. I would put in a strong cedar or redwood fence inside the wrought iron... installed by professionals, as wind is a factor. Get the OK from the city. Bougainvillea has treacherous thorns. |
