In another part of this site I mention  If You have neighbors phone numbers  you can put them into your cell phone by address and first name  For instance 6425Paul  and  set it to his contact number. I have also mentioned using the memo voice recording in the cell phone for collecting information. For instance I came home about 1:00a.m.  driving through the street to the east of me. I saw a vehicle  with it's lights on parked at the curb in front of a home that has a pickup  truck used for construction  that has tool boxes . What I did not see is a light in the house. So I went around the block and pulled up behind them at a safe distance ,just enough time to record the license plate. and  then a lady was dropped off from the vehicle and it drove away. That indicates that it was not a crime, but had they not left I would have a license plate for that resident in the morning. Ice trucks selling on some blocks at 9:00 p.m or a dome light of a car on more than 2 minutes  seems suspicious to me if their is no house light on. Just some things to look  for . I have asked my watch commander to make a presentation on tips of this nature.  On the case of the vehicle  I was going to just get the information and drive -off. I do not suggest anyone trying to stop someone .But report these calls to the police if it is more obvious .I would also suggest  greeting  strangers passing through the neighbor hood ,it will be welcomed or make someone feel uncomfortable if they are stalking the neighborhood. I would include waving to strange car if they are driving slowly to let them know they are being watched . If  you have strangers walking through your neighborhood  it is always a good time to check for mail for the second time. It give you a opportunity to see if they leave  your street and contact the resident  if they should not. By having the address in you cell and knowing your neighbor names you can cross reference locations from a distance. For instance you know Paul  that lives in the home across the street four houses down . But you can not see his address from your window at 11:00  P.M. . Look out your window and see the house that Paul lives in ,you know it's feature and his cars and by looking up his name you will find his address to call him or the police If you see something odd. If you  know the feature or cars ,from the comment I made early in this statement you know his address.  But if your are driving by you can look up all your neighbors by looking for the address contact .

I had a neighbor home broken into Thursday , during the day . I Think he was the target because his home sits across from a block wall .( No neighbors face his Home ) . They came in breaking through the back garage door . In speaking to neighbors I picked up two tips . One said ' people  walk up to trash cans  that are out front , not to get cans but to scout out locations .In going up to the homes with trash cans by the home ,they see if you have dogs barking .  Second , to check what you have bought lately . Try to cut up or conceal  those big boxes when disposing of them . Perhaps cut up the sides ,face the brown sides out and tape them together. I saw a man in is thirty's walking up to most my neighbors home Friday that had visible cans being stored along the home . I was occupied but the next time I am going to take a cell phone picture and call the police.

Just a reminder , in light of the times you may want to take in your garage door opener control from the car in the evenings if you park out side . Also though it is very difficult  to break in to the code enrty box for the garage  it is helpful to wipe them numbers down once in a while . It was brought to my attention that my numbers most used were cleaned from pushing them to activate

Heres alittle thought . Some people put a rod or piece of wood in the window guide to prevent from opening them . I know windows have latches, but  if broken it is easier to pull the latch than remove a rod or those window lock on the guide  through broken glass .  http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xhb/R-100212527/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
