Folks we are once again being overrun by rats and rodents.  They are in the bushes along the street and now invading our homes.  The last time this happened I contacted vector control and they came and put out pellets in the public thoroughfare.

If you are having this problem PLEASE call vector control at 909 388-4600.  Make a report.  They need to know how bad it is getting.

It has not been this bad since the fire.

I've also seen one run into the storm drain at the north east corner of Cherry and Bridal Path.  This was a rat.  We need to put a stop to this before it gets worse.

We too are concerned re: the rats.  We have managed to rid ourselves of three so far this year.  And, our garage looks like a huge glue trap.  We have called Vector Control several times and have never seen any action...but will try again.

We know the reason for the greenery around the walls, etc., but at what point do we put a stop to it so that rats do not have an avenue for living in.  We are must be experiencing the damage these rodents are doing ...

Here's an easy solution to the rat problem: get a cat.

I haven't seen a live rodent since moving to Hunter's Ridge seven years ago. My cat has shown me plenty of dead ones, however...

I dont think there is anything we can really do.  Rodents are rodents, they say that for every person there are 10 rodents, ewwwwll.  I to have had rodents in my garage, I've left the side door open for my dogs to come in n out.  Soon after I found their goody box was bitten on the bottom.

Cat is one idea, another, keep your doors closed and dont keep bush(s) around your house.  Thats a perfect place for them to nest.

Just saw some crows eating a dead rat in the street.

Might have to go get a cat today!

Any ideas on what to do about gophers?  I have tried some home remedies but I'm thinking of getting a quote from a company.  Do you have any referrals?

Haven't seen any rats, but I know they are around.  We do have or should I say, had lots of mice.  My Ripley cat has been very busy and quite proud of herself. (she's an indoor cat)  I don't know if she'd be able to get rats, but that'd be nice.  My sister's cat would be able to, he is a big time hunter.

I'm guessing it's almost snake season (OH NO!!) so that'll take care of some of the varmits.

Mayor Mark..I am hoping you will see this...I talked to Vector Control..It seems another neighbor had just called also...Vector Contol told me that she can tell me how to prevent rats and rodents but she was going to call The city of Fontana to see what they would do if anything to take care of it...My neighbor then came and reminded me that we pay in our property tax/Hunters Ridge bill a portion to Vector Control...So realizing that we need ourselves to take steps to prevent the problem, are we indeed paying extra for their services?...

The neighbor suggested that they had been spraying in the new  development and that sent the rodents down here...That sounded possible...She also said that on trash day she saw many rats running on the streets in the morning...I myself saw 4 near my trash cans that afternoon...My hubby is working on that though lol...One rat at a time!...lol....Many thanks~

I don't know about you all, but we've been catching mice like crazy! We found a trap we really like and it's called "The Better Mousetrap." You can keep reusing it, you don't get your fingers snapped in it and it doesn't make a gross mess, or at least it hasn't so far.

I like that you don't have to throw it out. It seemed so wasteful to throw away those wood traps. My husband likes that he doesn't lose fingers when setting it.

Have you all noticed how bad the rats are getting in your area/home.  We found  five, five of them suckers in the garage.  We saw two climbing up the next door home and told them and the other house next to us has two rats dead in their lawn.  Vector Control comes out ... tries their best, but gosh folks if we are doing our part to get rid of them why can't you.  Call Vector Control and they will put up traps, etc.  Clean up the ivy and bushes so they can't hide and for gosh sakes quit feeding your cat on your front pourch.  The rats are huge and quickly multipling .. help .. call Victor Control, clean up before they do more damage.

So we called Victor Control and they had no resolution to the "roof" rats that we all are experiencing.  These creatures walk on the electrity lines, climb up home into the rafters, etc. and all Victor Control can say is Fontana's Landscapers are taking down the traps; hum, I see may of the traps out on my daily walks.  There is no answer other than using various traps to kill these suckers.  They are BIG and creepy ... and we have killed six of them now.   ... but Victor Control did say that we all need to package our trash in plastic tubs and keep the paper out of the garages, no food around and close up the holes that might exist.  This is really bad!!!!  I saw four of them on Monday for trash day.

http://www.fontana.org/archives/64/Snakes.pdf  The Fontana Police Department would like to remind residents that we are in the heat of rattle snake season. Officers have responded to two calls in two days regarding rattle snakes in populated areas of the city. If you see a snake, immediately call the Fontana Police Department Animal Services Team (FAST) at 350-7700. If you feel an immediate threat is presented by the snake, call 9-1-1.
